UnderCover
Under the vast glass roofs, a microcosm flourishes. Insects, birds and animals coexist in a tranquil yet vibrant ecosystem. The scent and noise can be intense, as bees and other pollinators buzz around, along with the birdsong from territorial robins, blackbirds and wagtails. I loved how they became so familiar with my presence. One day I was painting and looked up to see a magnificent hare munching the verdant gifts.
Painting from mid-afternoon into early evening, the light and shadows become more intense heading towards the golden hour. Working quickly in order to capture the light before it disappears for the day, the result is an expressive and gestural style.
Undercover is a visual diary reflecting Andrew Craig Jone’s observations and experiences over the summer months. Each piece offers a glimpse into the peaceful yet vibrant life that thrives under the glass canopies - a harmonious world of abundance, texture, and colour.
